With the busy season upon us, Rugby Canada is pleased to officially announce the 2012 U19 Canadian Rugby Championship.
Rugby Canada has announced that Rugby Alberta has been chosen to host the 2012 Canadian Rugby Championship U19 Men’s Finals, this year from July 11th to 15th at the Nor'Westers Athletic Association's fields in South-East Edmonton.
The annual U19 Men’s tournament is the premier event for this age group, showcasing Canada’s young and rising male rugby talents. This year’s tournament will play host to 5 teams and between 100 to 150 athletes from across Canada. The tournament is a key feature in Rugby Canada’s Talent Identification program with goals of producing players from the U20 Men’s squad as well as the Senior Men’s 15s and 7s teams. The CRC U19 event will also act as a selection tool for players to attend the Canadian Rugby Centre of Excellence for the following year under the centralization process as well as the feeder competition for the Senior Canada Rugby Championship (CRC) league.
“Rugby Alberta is more than pleased to bring this event to Edmonton. Five teams [British Columbia, Wolfpack, Ontario, Lower Canada and Atlantic) will be hosted by Rugby Alberta as we once again show the extreme professionalism of our staff in showcasing rugby events in our province,” stated Executive Director of Rugby Alberta, Debby Ashmore.
“During the weekend of July 14th, we will also be hosting the “U16 & U18 Prairie Championship for men and women. Having the CRC U19 Men event at the same time will allow this age group of players from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, the opportunity to see a High Performance Championship during their visit. As always, Rugby Alberta actively seeks the opportunity to showcase not only our own club Championships, but Provincial Championships as well as all National Championships.”
Rugby Canada is extremely pleased to have Rugby Alberta host this event over the summer and look forward to seeing all of Canada coming out to cheer on the present and future of rugby in this fine country.
