Embarking on one of the most ambitious CRC tours ever, Ontario Blues have named their team for the match against Chile, to be played at Parc Mahuida, Santiago, Saturday May 5 at 4 pm EDT.
The Blues have brought a mix of youth and experience on this major trip and will start five capped Canadian players plus 7s cap Tyler Ardron against the team ranked 23rd in the IRB world rankings.
Young Liam Underwood of Balmy Beach makes his second Blues start, having scored two tries against The Rock in St Johns last summer on debut, and wears the 10 shirt for the first time. Luke Tait, a seasoned pro and veteran capped player, comes into the second row, while RWC vet Mike Scholz regains the 12 shirt he last wore for Ontario in their 27-24 win over USA Selects in October 2009.
“Biggest thing we have ever done” said Blues head coach Chris Silverthorn. “Everyone here has to and will, make a big step up to make this a success.”
Chile, for their part, had three close losses in the recent Torneo Argentino, which features Chile, Uruguay and the Argentine provinces in a High Performance tournament.
The weather is expected to be clear and warm for the doubleheader, which will see Chile host Argentina in a U20 test match as the first game.
